About Habscore

What is Habscore?

Habscore is a platform where people share real housing cost data, such as rent, utilities, and recurring apartment-related fees, so others can better understand what it may actually cost to live in a specific building or area.

Where does the data come from?

The data on Habscore comes from user-submitted reports. People share their own housing costs based on their real apartment or rental experience.

How does Habscore calculate the numbers it shows?

Habscore summarizes user-submitted reports to show typical reported costs for a building or area. These values may change as more reports are added. The goal is to help people understand realistic cost patterns, not to present an official quote or guarantee.

Is Habscore accurate?

Habscore can be very useful for spotting patterns and setting expectations, especially when multiple reports exist. But it is still based on user submissions, so it should be treated as a practical reference, not a guaranteed or official source.

Should I make housing decisions based only on Habscore?

No. Habscore is best used as one practical research tool alongside tours, lease documents, utility provider information, landlord communication, and your own judgment.

Reports and Costs

What costs can be included in a report?

A report can include rent and common housing-related costs such as electricity, gas, water, sewer, trash/recycling, parking, amenity fees, HOA/community fees, pet rent, and some move-in costs. Some reports may include only part of this information.

Why are some costs missing?

Not every user pays the same bills directly, and not every report includes all fields. In some cases, certain utilities are included in rent, billed separately, paid by a roommate, seasonal, or simply not entered.

Why do costs vary so much for the same building?

Costs in the same building can differ for many reasons: apartment size, lease date, unit condition, floor plan, promotions, utility usage, season, number of tenants, included services, and which fees the person reported.

Can I trust a building with only one report?

A single report can still be helpful, but confidence is higher when several reports point in a similar direction. In general, more submissions make the picture more reliable.

Why do area comparisons look different from one building's numbers?

Area-level figures combine reports from a wider location, while building-level figures reflect only that building's reported data. Because of that, area numbers may be higher or lower than what you see for a specific building.

Account and Privacy

Can I edit my report later?

Yes. If you created the report while logged in, you can edit your own submissions later from your account.

Is my personal information public?

Habscore is designed to show housing cost data, not personal private details. Your reports should never include sensitive personal information in notes or free-text fields.

Does Habscore show my exact apartment unit?

Habscore is focused on building-level and area-level cost visibility. It is not meant to expose private resident information.

Why is my building missing?

A building may be missing because nobody has added or reported it yet. If you cannot find it, you may be able to add it and submit the first report.
